 Environmental Remediator Program
Certificate: 174 Clock Hours
The Environmental Remediator Program is designed for those individuals interested in entering the environmental field as a supervisor for an environmental contractor.  Working for a contractor in the environmental field will involve removing, controlling, or cleaning up asbestos, lead-based paint, hazardous waste, or other hazardous material.  Students will obtain a basic level of knowledge and skill dealing with environmental remediation issues such as the cleanup and disposal of hazardous materials, lead, and/or asbestos.  Students receive instruction in environmental health hazards; regulations; remediation methods; personal decontamination; personal protective equipment; waste disposal; other site safety and health hazards; site supervision; contracts and technical specs; and legal and insurance issues.  Upon completion of this program, students could enter the field by performing or supervising the removal of asbestos, lead, or clean-up of other environmental hazards, such as hazardous waste or a Superfund site. Students with prior experience in a related field or previous supervisory experience may be able to enter the workforce directly as a supervisor.   Those individuals who do not have prior experience will most likely have to work under the direct supervision of supervisor/foreman to gain field experience prior to becoming a supervisor.
Admission requirements
Participants should be able to read and understand English, and have a high school diploma or GED.  Individuals who do not meet the educational requirements will be considered on an individual basis by separate testing methods.
